Who we are looking for
The Family Mental Health Support Services (FMHSS) program operates within a whole-of-family context to provide early intervention support to children and young people up to the age of 18 years who are showing early signs of, or are at risk of developing mental illness.
The FMHSS Intake Worker provides innovative and flexible early intervention support services to enhance the well being of children and young people. They are the first contact for enquiries and new clients referred to FMHSS and are responsible for the intake and triage process in the Northern and Western Region. The FMHSS Intake Worker uses their knowledge and experience in family mental health to conduct comprehensive, child-focused intake assessments and utilizes a “no wrong door” approach to ensure children and their families or carers receive timely access to support.
To be successful in this role you will:
- Tertiary qualifications: a degree (AQF level 7) in Social Work, Psychology, or Social Sciences OR a Diploma (AQF level 5) in Counselling, Community Services, Youth work, or Mental Health with demonstrated relevant experience.
- Experience and expertise gained through previous appointments, services and/or other study related to this position.
It would be a bonus if you:
- Experience in providing Case Work and/or Case Management Services
- Experience in delivering outreach support.
- Experience in engaging hard to reach families.
- Experience in holistic screening, assessment, referral and advocacy, case management and crisis work in the community services sector.
What you will be doing
The FMHSS Intake Worker will provide child-focused and trauma informed case work and therapeutic support to vulnerable and complex families.

Work with children, young people and families to identify risk factors or issues, which may lead to poor mental health outcomes later in life and work with the child, or young person and their family to address these issues and strengthen protective factors.

Promote client safety through universal holistic screening and risk assessment of complex relationship and social issues utilising the Detection of Overall Risk Screen (DOORS) tool.

Identify and respond to immediate client needs and safety issues in consultation with the Team Leader and/or Regional Manager.

Coordinate initial triage for families and children utilizing face-to-face, telephone, telehealth, and outreach modes of service delivery.

Undertake child focused and trauma informed case work with vulnerable and complex families.
