Who we are looking for 

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled counsellor with a strong understanding of child development and trauma-informed practice, who can provide tailored therapeutic support to children and families impacted by domestic, family, and sexual violence. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, adaptable, and committed to fostering safe, supportive environments that promote children’s wellbeing and strengthen family relationships.

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • AQF level 7 or above qualification in Social Work, Psychology or related discipline or the equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with children, couple and families therapeutically using in a variety of modalities including individual, couple, group work, psychoeducation, case management, feedback to parents, family therapy and group work.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing counselling to those effected by Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence and those using violence in relationships.  

It would be a bonus if you have: 

  • Training in evidence-based group programs (e.g., Bringing up Great Kids, The Garden, Circle of Security)
  • Demonstrated experience in working with children and families who have experienced trauma. 

 

What you will be doing  

  • Provide high quality, structured, outcomes focused therapeutic interventions to children and families focusing on developing stability, nurturance and healing from trauma.
  • Promote client safety through universal holistic screening and risk assessment utilising the Detection of Overall Risk Screen (DOORS), Kids, DOORS and child developmental screening tools.
  • Ensure effective interventions through sound child centred assessments and risk screening, case formulation, care planning, review and closure processes with families referred.
  • Develop and deliver therapeutic and psycho-educational group programs to support parents on supporting children to respond to the effects of family violence on children.
  • Respond in a timely and collaborative manner to identified risk in order prioritise client safety.
