Together4Kids (T4K) provides therapeutic support to children aged 0–12 who are accompanying a parent accessing family and domestic violence and homelessness services. We work closely children and their parent/s through a child focused lens to support children to overcome trauma, strengthen their ability to deal with difficult feelings and reactions, and adjust to family changes and disruptions.

Who we are looking for 

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled practitioner who is child-focused, trauma-informed, and passionate about supporting children and families impacted by homelessness and domestic violence.

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (AQF Level 7) in Early Childhood, Social Work, Social Science, Human Services, Psychology, Health, Occupational Therapy or Midwifery OR a Certificate (AQF Level 4) or Diploma (AQF Level 5) in in Counselling, Infant Mental Health, Childhood Trauma and in delivering evidence-based parenting programs with significant relevant experience.
  • Experience in working therapeutically with children.

It would be a bonus if you have: 

  • Experience in working with children and families in crisis or experiencing domestic violence and homelessness.
  • Understanding of the effects of trauma on infants, children and adults.
  • Experience in working with Aboriginal communities, children, families and services.

 

What you will be doing  

 

The Children's Practitioner provides therapeutic support to children aged 0–12 years who are accompanying adults accessing homelessness and domestic violence services. Working primarily in outreach settings, the practitioner conducts child-focused assessments, delivers individual and group therapeutic programs, and offers parenting education to help families achieve positive outcomes for their children. The role involves close collaboration with case managers, schools, childcare providers, and other support services to ensure coordinated care and advocacy for each child. In addition to managing a small caseload, the practitioner contributes to sector development by facilitating training and sharing expertise in child-focused, trauma-informed practice.
