Who we are looking for 

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled practitioner with experience working with children and families, who can respond effectively to complex needs and safety concerns. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, culturally responsive, and confident in delivering therapeutic support across a variety of settings.

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • Tertiary qualifications (AQF level 7) in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or Social Services or less formal qualifications with demonstrated relevant experience. 
  • Experience working with children and parents dealing with the impact of trauma caused by homelessness, violence, abuse and neglect, and co-morbid factors of alcohol and substance misuse, mental health challenges.
  • Experience working with families with infants and young children including families from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds. 

It would be a bonus if you have: 

  • Experience in assessment, advocacy, referral, case management and crisis work in a counselling or mediation environment in the community services industry. 
  • Understanding the effects of trauma on children and adults. 

 

What you will be doing  

In this role you will provide timely and child-focused therapeutic support to children and families by conducting referral triage, intake assessments, and delivering tailored interventions in collaboration with the Together4Kids team and sector partners. 

  • Conduct triage of referrals, including contacting the referrer to gather additional information about the children and family circumstances, assess the required level of support, and identify imminent issues that may affect engagement and service responsiveness to the child and family.
  • With support from the team, conduct intake interviews and child-focused assessment processes for children and their caregivers referred to Together4Kids.
  • Respond to family and child safety issues promptly and facilitate access to relevant assistance for clients and the sector.
  • Under general direction, deliver customized therapeutic group programs to children and parents, managing a caseload responsibly.
  • Collaborate closely with the T4K Team Leader to ensure timely case allocation and actively manage the waitlist to provide timely and supportive responses to families and children.
