Who we are looking for
We have several positions available within RASA’s Health Equity Men’s Behaviour Change Programs team. We are seeking dedicated Repair4Respect (R4R) Counsellors, Caring Dad’s Counsellors and Therapeutic Contact Workers (Mother and Children). Please specify in your cover letter whether you wish to be considered for all positions or specify which position(s) you are applying for.
The Repair4Respect (R4R) Counsellor and Caring Dad’s Counsellor roles involve providing holistic men's behaviour change interventions aimed at reducing violence, addressing gendered stereotype beliefs, and tackling the underlying psychosocial factors that contribute to the use of violence and coercive control in intimate partner relationships and parenting. There is a key focus on improving men’s capacity to parent in a safe and child centred manner, recognising that harm to a child’s mother is a parenting choice that also harms the child. The Caring Dad’s program works with fathers who have physically abused, emotionally abused or neglected their children, or exposed their children to domestic violence or who are deemed to be at high-risk for these behaviours.
The Caring Dad’s Therapeutic Contact Workers (Mother and Children) role involves providing holistic family safety work with partners and children of men engaged in the Caring Dads program. This role will include providing proactive partner and children contact, intake and safety screening, risk and safety planning, therapeutic support, and coordination with other services and the Caring Dads Counsellors working with the fathers’ using violence. It also works with a recognition of children as clients in their own right.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Tertiary qualification (AQF level 7) in social work, psychology, counselling, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals, couples, or families in a therapeutic context.
- Demonstrated experience in providing counselling to those effected by Family and Domestic Violence including children and those using violence in relationships.
- Understanding of the gendered lens of violence and the demonstrated ability to practice grounded in a gendered analysis of family, domestic and sexual violence
It would be a bonus if you have:
- Postgraduate (AQF level 8) qualification in social work, psychology, counselling, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating therapeutic Family and Domestic Violence behaviour change groups.
What you will be doing
- Provide high-quality, responsive face-to-face and online individual counselling and group work interventions, prioritising accountability (Repair4Respect (R4R) Counsellors and Caring Dad’s Counsellors).
- Create a psychoeducational and therapeutic learning environment to help clients reduce their FDSV behaviour and risk to others (Repair4Respect (R4R) Counsellors and Caring Dad’s Counsellors).
- Provide therapeutic informed case management and counselling to improve women and children’s sense of agency, choice and control (Caring Dad’s Therapeutic Mother and Children Contact Workers).
- Restorative Approach - High Support/ High Challenge to scaffold change
- Undertake comprehensive holistic screening and risk assessment using the Detection of Overall Risk Screen (DOORS) tool.
- Ensure effective interventions through sound case formulation, intervention, review, closure processes, and appropriate reporting and referrals.
- Conduct ongoing risk assessments and develop safety plans to ensure client safety.
- Work collaboratively with other services to enable coordinated support and make tailored and sequenced referrals for clients.
- Maintain and share comprehensive knowledge of local service and referral options.
- Ensure sound clinical interventions based on current therapeutic practices and engage in supervision to articulate the relationship between theory and practice.
